WORK PACKAGE 4

The following activities were carried out as part of Work Package 4:

  • Study of typical water distribution network topologies, based on both the literature and real data from actual networks in Greece.
  • Identification of network devices and functional units
  • Modeling water distribution networks as discrete event systems
  • Identification of desired operational characteristics for the hydraulic behavior and functionality of the devices.
  • Formulation of operating rules aimed at ensuring proper hydraulic operation.
  • Defining rules that describe the normal operation of devices in the absence of faults
  • Defining the desired characteristics of quality variables, in accordance with international, European, and national guidelines
  • Formulating rules for compliance with quality criteria
  • Formulation of rules for safe observer switching
  • Formulation of formal languages describing the rules for safe observer switching
  • Design and development of monitors that enforce the rules for safe observer switching
  • Defining the controlled system as a controlled automaton and performing a systematic analysis of the properties of the physical realizability of supervisors and the deadlock avoidance
  • Adaptation of the design of the supervisory control system for the case of unobservable events – design of diagnosis and observer systems for discrete event models of water distribution networks with unobservable events
  • Design of a hybrid system that combines continuous and discrete event system monitoring
